Precautionary Recommendations
AthletixNation makes it easy to connect with friends and make new ones, but who you let into your space, how you interact with them, and how you present yourself online are important things to think about when using social networking sites. Here are some common guidelines that you should follow when using AthletixNation:

1. Set your “Profile Settings” for privacy when you set up your profile. This allows you to control which information on your profile is available to the public. For example, you may hide your last name, email address or city you reside in.
2. Don't forget that your profile and AthletixNation forums are public spaces. Don't post anything you wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., your phone number, address, IM screen names, or specific whereabouts). Avoid posting anything that would make it easy for a stranger to find you, such as where you hang out every day or a picture of you in front of your office or school.
3. People aren't always who they say they are. Be careful about adding strangers to your teammates list. It's fun to connect with new AthletixNation friends from all over the world, but avoid meeting people in person whom you do not fully know. If you must meet someone, do it in a public place and bring a friend or trusted adult.
4. Harassment, hate speech and inappropriate content should be reported. If you feel someone's behavior is inappropriate, react. Report the situation here.
5. Don't post anything that would embarrass you later. It's easy to think that only our friends are looking at our AthletixNation profile, but the truth is that everyone can see it. Think twice before posting a photo or information you wouldn't want your parents, potential employers, colleges or boss to see!
6. Don't say you're over 18 if you're not. Don't say you're younger than 18 if you're not. If AthletixNation determines you are under 14 and pretend to be older, we will delete your profile. If AthletixNation determines you are over 18 and pretend to be a teenager to contact underage users, we will delete your profile.
7. Never share your password. Nobody associated with AthletixNation will ever ask for your password so you have no reason to provide it to anyone else except maybe a parent or guardian.

Reporting Harassment
If another user is abusing, harassing, stalking or continually bugging you, please complete a report so that the moderators can address the situation and prevent further harassment. You may report the situation here.

Internet Safety Organizations

The Internet Keep Safe Coalition group teaches basic rules of Internet safety to children and parents, reaching them online and in school. Governors and/or first spouses formed this coalition in partnership with a growing list of crime prevention organizations, law enforcement agencies, foundations and corporate sponsors. Click here for list and links.

Based in Washington D.C., the Family Online Safety Institute's primary objective is to find innovative solutions for family online safety. Advocating a balanced approach with greater parental involvement and empowerment, comprehensive industry self-regulation and reasonable government oversight and support, the Institute provides a unique forum for thought leaders to exchange information, develop ideas and refine solutions.

The Institute incorporates the work and mission of the Internet Content Rating Association, the world's leading content labeling system for the Internet, providing families with the tools they need to protect their children while ensuring the continued free expression of content providers. In addition to this technological side to the Institute, FOSI also utilizes events, public policy and education to address the challenge of family online safety.
