Contestants,

I would like to preface my selection for the “Ask Jimmy A Really Good Question and Maybe Win” contest by stating that I chose the winner after days of personal anguish.  What do I want to say?  Which question can I have the most fun with?  Is it possible to come up with a straight answer?  Do I want to answer any of these questions straight?  Should I take the easy lay-up queries or should I tackle the pointed jab at my team?

Hmm. I’m going with…(drum roll please)…the pointed jab!

The winner of four free tickets to the game on July 10th of my Kansas City Wizards versus the New York Red Bulls, a game ball, and the chance to meet yours truly is PHS and his/her question, which I found quite humorous but also right to the point, is:

“Jimmy, do you enjoy the irony in the fact that a defender is one of the top scorers on a team that plays an “exciting, attacking, get-numbers-forward, brand of soccer”?”

And my answer is:  PHS, the irony of your question, unfortunately for you I suppose, does not resonate with me the way you think it might because among other things, in my own mind, I am a closet midfielder with dreams of scoring big goals on a regular basis, an American Zinedine Zidane, if you will, with a flair for the dramatic minus the head butts and with a lot less cooler of a name.  Fortunately for me, I’ve managed to keep my dream alive and well by hitting the back of the net a few times this year and even though the statistics prove that as a team we aren’t firing on all cylinders just yet I promise you that I’m surrounded by many talented players who wow me daily.  I could continue on and on (and for those that know me or listen to my radio show) and on and on and on but I’ll close by saying that I’m proud to be captain of this team, the leader of this group of men, and I know we are on the cusp of big things.  Stick with us.

That’s it.  I have to stop there because I’ve twisted PHS’ question into a personal attack on my team and now I’m all fired up!  Thanks PHS!

Anyway, I want to congratulate our winner again and offer a big thanks to everyone who participated.  We will definitely be doing this again this season albeit with a new wrinkle, maybe something with video next time for a chance to win my jersey, tickets, or the like.  Stay tuned.
